Bodegas Numanthia is renowned for its preservation of the Tinta de Toro grape and managing some of the world's oldest vines, which range from 30 to 200 years of age.

The winery boasts a historic estate of 150 hectares spread across the region, situated on both banks of the river Duero. These pre-phylloxera vineyards, sculpted by time and ungrafted, have miraculously survived decades of extreme weather, enduring harsh winters and scorching summers.

The remarkably resilient vines grow in sandy, stony soil, which forces their roots to extend to great depths in search of water and nutrients. All this, combined with a careful selection of the finest grapes of the star variety par excellence, Tinta de Toro, and meticulous craftsmanship, enables the production of great wines of extraordinary finesse, character, and complexity.

Production:

Numanthia is made from 100% Tinta de Toro grapes grown in century-old vineyards and is released 5 years after the harvest. The grapes are sourced from vineyards aged between 50 and 120 years, situated at an altitude of 700 metres on the slopes of the River Duero, and are cultivated using organic, dry-farming techniques.

The grapes are harvested by hand, with a rigorous selection of the bunches in the vineyard. 100% destemmed. Temperature-controlled fermentation in stainless steel and concrete tanks. The wine matures for 16 months in 225 and 400-litre French oak barrels, 40% in second-use barrels and the rest in new barrels, being racked every 4 months. It continues to age in the bottle until it is released to the market.

Tasting Notes:

Numanthia is a delicate, well-rounded wine that expresses the elegance and power of the Toro Denomination of Origin. It has an ageing potential of up to 20 years.

Ripe cherry colour. On the nose, it is clean and intense, with exceptionally refined fruit aromas, supple cherry and plump fruits, alongside herbal notes and menthol notes, a mineral undertone and subtle oak.

The palate is full-bodied, flavourful, and smooth, displaying great weight and good length, structured ripe tannins, and pleasant notes of coffee, liquorice, mint and spice.
