El Quintà comes from 60-year-old Grenache vines from a set of small plots of 2 hectares, each located on the hills of Coll d'Alsina to the west of Gandesa. The vineyards are cultivated organically, using only organic fertilizers and natural products.

The wine is now organically farmed and has been duly certified by the authority CCPAE, the Catalan Council of Organic Production, the public watchdog responsible to the Ministry of Agriculture of the Catalan Government.

Production:

The harvest is done manually, followed by a careful sorting of the grapes in the vineyard.

Fermented in French Allier oak barrels for 15 days and aged in the same barrels for 9 months.

Tasting Notes:

Shows an attractive nose of ripe fruit, pear, tropical fruits, honeyed aromas, minerals, and dry flowers. Smooth texture, layers of flavours, and balanced, refreshing acidity. Hints of toast and good depth.

Note: Best enjoyed over the next 3-4 years.

THE WINERY

Celler Bàrbara Forés is a family-owned winery that dates back to the 19th century. It is named for its original founder and winemaker, a pioneer of the 19th century, Bàrbara Forés (1825-1905), who, together with her son Rafael Ferrer, built the bodega and equipped it for bottling wine, which was something rare in that century.

Actually, the winery is in the hands of their descendant, Carmen Ferrer, and her husband, Manuel Sanmartin. They took control of it in 1994, restored it, and made it work again. Later in 2019, their daughter Pili Sanmartín joined the family business, bringing with her a fresh approach that encourages the dialogue of wine with the arts, which will be reflected in the new line of wines she produces.
