Sobrenatural is the winery's long-aged white wine. With its excellent ageing potential, it is a unique, noble, natural wine with no added sulphites – a true tribute to nature, which endures the passage of time, adapting to change. Made with the Verdeja grapes that have matured and aged for over three years in wooden vats, resting in the cellars of the underground winery carved out of the rock in the early 19th century.
The grapes are sourced from vineyards composed of clay-limestone soil with pebbles. The wine is fermented with natural yeasts and aged in the Secala-Menade cellars for around three years in large barrels and earthenware vats under a flor yeast layer (biological ageing). Afterwards, it is aged for a further two years in the bottle, making a total of five years of ageing. It is bottled without the addition of sulphites. The wine is produced in limited quantities.
Tasting notes:
Golden yellow in colour. Nose of great complexity, it offers a wide range of aromas, from chamomile and honeysuckle to notes of quince, white fruit, herbaceous hints of scrubland, damp earthy notes and toasted almonds. Full-bodied, showing perfect acidity and saltiness. Hints of flint and deliberate oxidation give it an excellent complexity.
Bodegas Menade is the project of the Sanz siblings – Alejandra, Marco and Richard – the sixth generation of an iconic family and pioneers of the Rueda Designation of Origin. The winery was founded in 2005, and Richard Sanz, the owner, is currently in charge of winemaking. They produce a wide range of organic white wines with Verdejo and Sauvignon Blanc from their own certified organic vineyards.
The winery is recognised for its commitment to organic viticulture and for introducing a natural-focused philosophy to the region. All of its vineyards are farmed organically and hold European organic certification, ensuring a balanced relationship within their surroundings. Its aim is to promote biodiversity and ecosystem health in order to naturally help prevent fungal diseases in flora and fauna.
