Caminante is a mineral and elegant white wine, organically produced by the Empordà-based winery, Terra Remota, although it is produced under the denomination of origin Catalunya.
Terra Remota is a relatively young winery. Built in 2006, the winery is located in the Alt Empordà region, in a natural beauty spot, yet fairly isolated and remote, as its name suggests. The building blends into the environment, where design and functionality go hand in hand. The estate consists of 54 hectares located in the Sierra de La Albera, and their 12 plots of vineyards have been planted with low-yielding clones for each variety. Since 2012, they have been fully ecologically certified, with the entire viticulture and winemaking processes carried out under the organic agriculture precept.
They produce a range of high-quality wines that are influenced by the characteristics of the terroir and the suitable Mediterranean climate of the area where they come from.
Production:
Caminante comes from the best selection of their own vines grown organically on granite soils. A blend in which White Grenache is the primary varietal, followed by Chardonnay and, in smaller quantities, Chenin Blanc.
The vinification of the grapes from each vineyard is done separately, truly reflecting the soil characteristics of each site. The grapes are destemmed and pneumatically pressed at low pressure. Fermentation takes place at a controlled temperature of 18º in stainless steel vats and in French oak barrels with battonage, where it ages on its fine lees for approximately 8 months. The final blending takes place once the ageing has been completed and before bottling.
Tasting Notes:
A subtle nose with revealing white floral notes as well as anise and iodine aromas. The palate is fresh and stands out for its marked minerality and finesse. Tropical palate, with a refreshing edge of acidity and slightly exotic fruit. The finish is fresh and mineral.
