Grey Grenache is a mutation of red grenache, it presents an orange color that turns into grey as it ripes.
The grapes come from 2 hectares replanted with Grey Grenache in the Gritella area, Sirurana, in the higher hillsides with northern orientation and yellow clay soils.
Vinification: Slow fermented, whole cluster pressing after a 4-hour maceration. Ageing 8 months in amphora and steel vat. Total SO2: 14/16 mg/l
The Grey Grenache variety is quite difficult to compare with other references, it gives the wine a boisterous character. Aromatic, floral notes and white fruit. Fresh and long.
SiurAlta VINS NUS Montsant is Alfredo Arribas’ project in the DO Montsant. This project includes a range of wines made in the most natural way, pure, hand crafted and close to its origins. Wines where the acidity constitutes the backbone of the wine, thus replacing the traditional tannic based structure, this can be achieved thanks to the higher freshness existing permanently in the SiurAlta area, which allows practicing a non-interventionist winemaking. Resulting in high altitude wines with great capacity for ageing.
Since the early starts of this wine-making adventure in 2001 with his initial project of Clos del Portal in Priorat, Alfredo has moved on focused by his passion and concern in the search for new initiatives. He developed a recovery task of old vines in the neighboring DO Montsant “Trossos”, followed by the incorporation of a project “el Mas de l’A”, based on the different Red and white Grenaches growing in the enclave of La Morera de Montsant. Opting for sustainable agriculture and viticulture, co-planting as a rule and stimulating the virtues of the youngest vines.
