First wine of Santi Puig at his project Ca L’Apotecari de Porrera, sourced from vines planted in 2002 from the vineyard “Los Perers”, grapes grown under ecological standards on extremely rocky schist (Llicorella).

Vinification

Manually harvested and selected both at the vineyard and at the sorting table. Fermented in stainless steel tanks at a low temperature, the wine has aged for 18 months in used French Allier oak barrels. Afterwards, it will take a further 18 months before it is labeled and released into the market.

Bottled without filtration. Production of 4095 bottles

Tasting Notes:

Dark ruby color. Shows all the typicity of a classic Priorat wine with outstanding freshness and rich flavours. On the nose, rich scents of fresh red fruit marked by the characteristic slatey notes, spicy with a light herby edge, and well-integrated creamy notes from the oak. On the palate, shows big and gusty, with excellent intensity of red fruit. The firm dry tannins cry out for food all the way to the end.

Wine with a long-life span, it is recommended to let the wine breathe in the glass.

THE WINERY

Ca L’Apotecari de Porrera, the project of Santi Puig, pays honors to his antecessor, his great-uncle Jaume, the last “Apotecari” of Porrera. It starts when Santi takes over the two plots of land belonging to his great-uncle: "Los Perers" and "Les Eres" at the beginning of the century.

"Los Perers" is located at 500 meters of altitude and has a very steep configuration that had to be terraced to make work possible and to effectively retain water. The soil is the characteristic slate, known locally as licorella. A relatively low-yielding new planting of each of the four varieties—Garnatxa, Carinyena, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Merlot— was added in 2000. Meanwhile "Les Eres" is destined for white Carignan, as it is not yet ready for quality production.

Santi felt ready to launch his first wines after spending more than a decade    working and experimenting at the Celler. Always bearing in mind to produce extremely limited numbers of very high-quality wine, so he pays close attention to agricultural techniques, cultivating the vineyards in accordance with ecological standards even if they are not certified.
