Vinification:

Les Eres Special dels Carners is a red blend made from centenary vines of Grenache and Carignan sourced from a single estate, "Els Carners", a very small vineyard situated in the municipal district of Bellmunt. Harvested manually and aged during 18 months in new French oak. Very small production; just 1 or 2 barriques are made.

Tasting Notes:

An extraordinary black-coloured, concentrated, rich, dense, full-bodied red. The flavours included plums, blackberries, spices, and liquorice with a perfect balance of acidity and dryness. Should mature beautifully.

Notes: It is recommended to decant it before serving. It can be drunk now or stored it and enjoyed as it ages in bottle.

THE WINERY

The winery is owned by Gerard Batllevell Simó, a descendent of a family of local winegrowers. In 1999, he restored the basement of their historic house in Porrera into a modern winery, and with his father's support and the advice of family and friends, he produced the first vintage that same year. 

Their vineyards, mainly dominated by slate soils, known locally as llicorella, are split into 2 zones: the high-altitude, cool vineyards around the village of Porrera and La Garrantxa:

Les Eres, situated on a steep terraced costers overlooking the village of Porrera, has 3 hectares planted 93 years ago with vines of Carignan and Grenache.

The lower, hotter vineyards around Bellmunt de Priorat, Tros Nou, have 3800 vines planted 87 years ago, mainly with Grenache peluda and Carignan.

Els Carners, was planted only 83 years ago with 1500 vines of Carignan and Grenache.
