Bottle: 75 cl

Type: Red wine, oak-aged

Alcohol Content: 14.5% vol.

Serving Temperature: 14º - 16ºC.

Elaborated by Celler Joan Simó, the grapes are sourced from the estate's younger vines planted between 1999 and 2000. The vineyards are located along the slopes from Porrera to Bellmunt, with soils comprised entirely of black slate, known locally as llicorella.

Vinification:

It goes through a pre-fermentation at a low temperature for 2-3 days, followed by a fermentation at a controlled temperature of 28ºC. Gentle pressing and malolactic fermentation in barrels. It ages for 8 months in used French oak barriques.

Tasting Notes:

A classic Priorat style, mineral with a more youthful character, deep and dark fruit aromas combined with the minerality and spicy notes. Nicely balanced acidity and freshness, simple fruit-driven with flavour and structure.

Notes: To be enjoyed during the next 3-4 years.

THE WINERY

The winery is owned by Gerard Batllevell Simó, a descendant of a family of local winegrowers. In 1999, he restored the basement of their historic house in Porrera into a modern winery, and with his father's support and the advice of family and friends, he produced the first vintage that same year.

Their vineyards, mainly dominated by slate soils, known locally as llicorella, are split into 2 zones: the high-altitude, cool vineyards around the village of Porrera and La Garrantxa:

Les Eres, situated on a steep terraced coster overlooking the village of Porrera, has 3 hectares planted 93 years ago with vines of Carignan and Grenache.

The lower, hotter vineyards around Bellmunt de Priorat, Tros Nou, have 3800 vines planted 87 years ago, mainly with Grenache peluda and Carignan.

Els Carners was planted only 83 years ago with 1500 vines of Carignan and Grenache.
