Mas Vilella, Albert Janè’s project in the Baix Penedès, has officially joined the Corpinnat sparkling wine collective brand, becoming the first winery in the Baix Penedès to do so. 

After founding Acústic Celler in Montsant and Ritme Celler in Priorat, Albert Jané, originally from Celler Jané Ventura in Penedès, took over the Mas Vilella Project in 2015. The estate was initially established by his parent in 1984. Under this project, Albert ventures into the world of sparkling wines, presenting his first two releases: a white sparkling wine made mainly from Xarel·lo and a rosé made entirely from the Sumoll grape variety. These sparkling wines are characterised by their Mediterranean profile and have been aged for 18 months, meeting the minimum ageing requirement permitted by Corpinnat.

The grapes come entirely from the Mas Vilella estate, a historic, traditional Catalan farmhouse, known as 'Masia', dating back to the XVI century in La Bisbal del Penedès, Baix Penedès, which Albert inherited from his parents. The estate covers 20 ha, of which 11 ha are under vines that overlook the Mediterranean Sea from the hills of the majestic Sierra del Montmell. Here, the vines grow on small terraces of poor, stony, calcareous soil, where Albert, true to his philosophy, practises organic viticulture based on manual labour and respect for the environment.

Production:

A sparkling white wine made from grapes grown on the Mas Vilella estate. It is a blend composed primarily of the Xarel·lo variety and complemented in smaller quantities by Macabeo and Sumoll, harvested and selected by hand. The wine is fermented and aged for 3 months in tanks, amphorae and large 400-litre oak barrels with its own lees and weekly batonnage. It undergoes a minimum bottle ageing of 18 months, with no added expedition liqueur. Certified by the CCPAE.

Tasting Notes: 

Straw-yellow in colour, with fine, well-integrated bubbles. Fragrant nose filled with white fruit and classic Mediterranean herbs like rosemary and thyme.

On the palate, it is fresh with balanced acidity and fruity with a herbaceous vein. The finish is clean, dry, and long-lasting with a pleasant hint of bitterness.
