The Massipa, Vi de Vila, a single-vineyard, elegant white wine with a very limited production, is made by Ricard Rofes at the historic winery in the Priorat, Cellers Scala Dei. A blend of mostly Garnacha (70%) with a smaller percentage of Chenin (30%) from a single vineyard, The Massipa, a small plot of just 0.60 ha. planted in 1983 in clay soils with good content of chalk, east-facing and at 680 meters in altitude.

The two varieties are pressed together and fermented in a single 1000-litre oak foudre at a controlled temperature of 16º - 18ºC using autochthonous yeasts. Aged over a year in the same foudre with its fine lees.

The Priory of Scala Dei, founded in 1163, was the first monastery on the peninsula and planted the region’s first grapes; for this reason, the bodega is emblematic of Priorat. The current owners took over in 1973, and Codorniu bought 25% at the end of 2000.

Tasting notes:

Elegance and class at their best, aromas redolent of white fruit, Mediterranean herbs, and floral notes. On the palate, it stands out for its freshness and intensity, creamy texture with a lovely herbaceous touch, and aniseed and mineral notes that contribute to its delicious long finish.

Notes: While delicious right now, it will evolve beautifully over the next 4–5 years.
