Terroir X De Llicorella Blanc, of limited production, is the first white wine made by the winery. It is a blend of four different varieties sourced from vineyards on steep slopes, planted in Llicorella soils, a small sheet of slate that provides the wine with its characteristically pronounced minerality.
Production:
Grapes harvested by hand. Vinification in steel tanks with natural yeasts. Soft-pressed with 5 months of batonnage. The wine spends 5 months with its lees in French oak of the 2nd and 3rd year.
Tasting notes:
Bright straw colour. Expressive aromas of ripe white fruit combined with a fabulous citrus note and touches of vanilla from its time in oak. On the palate, it is fresh and balanced, unctuous, with integrated acidity and cool minerality, finishing long and elegant.
The Winery
Salustia Alvarez is the man behind the project of Bodega Alvarez Duran, a small family winery in Porrera, a village in the heart of the Priorat Region, the emblematic wine-making area in Cataluña.
They produce small quantities of high-quality, singular wines from fruit sourced from very old vineyards inherited by their ancestors: two vineyards totalling 7 ha, located on the outskirts of the village, with vines growing on steep slopes and terraces on soil composed of the locally known "llicorella", sheets of slate stones; "El Fonellas", a tiny vineyard and home to the oldest vines, mostly Carignan, planted as far back as 1896, vines holding on very steep licorella slopes with a drop of 44% and west-orientated; and "La Rápita" vineyard, where the vines are much younger, having been planted in 1996 and growing on slopes with gradients ranging from 21% to 52%.
