Production:

Sourced from the 300 ha. Ygay Estate’s vineyards, situated at 500 meters above sea level.

Hand-harvested grapes are first carefully de-stemmed, squeezed, and then fermented at controlled temperatures in stainless steel tanks for approximately 11–15 days with daily remontage and pigeage processes. 

Aged in 225 l. American oak barrels (Tempranillo) and in French oak barrels (Mazuelo) during 28 months, followed by a minimum of 3 years in bottles before being released.

The Castillo de Ygay is only made in those exceptional years.

Tasting Notes: Complex nose displaying aromas of blackberry fruit, dates, prunes, and spice. Excellent structure and depth; shows freshness and vitality; sweet, maturing redcurrant and blackberry fruits. Long, smooth finish. A must-drink!

Notes: It is recommended to decant at least 20 minutes before serving.

Marqués de Murrieta, founded in 1852, is a family business and one of the most famous Rioja producers. This project is a way of life that, with more than 150 years of history, has succeeded in adapting to modern times and maintaining at the same time the winery’s identity with a perfect balance between tradition and modernity, which is transmitted and reflected in all the wines they produce. The winery includes almost 300 ha of vineyards in the southernmost part of La Rioja Alta. The extension of its estate makes Marques de Murrieta one of the few Spanish wineries whose wine is 100% elaborated with their own grapes, thus enabling them to take extra care of the vineyards and to have total control over them.
