The Nit de Garnatxes belongs to a series of four wines that have been elaborated exclusively with the Grenache variety, each sourced from four different types of soils in the Capçanes district: panal, llicorella, argila and calissa.

The Garnatxes Calissa is a terroir wine made from 100% old Grenache vines growing on chalky soils. The Calissa, as its name implies, comes from a plot made up of chalky soil, a solid, soft rock that breaks down easily, free-draining, holds little water, and dries out easily, forcing the roots to dig deep down in search of water and nutrients. This is the soil with less acidity, and here the Grenache gives its more fragrant and delicate version. 

Production:

Hand harvested during the middle of September, the wine has fermented at a controlled temperature of 24º-28º in 500 litres. French oak barrels. It has spent 6 months in 228 L medium-light toasted new French oak barrels. Light filtration.

Tasting Notes: 

Intense dark cherry colour. Excellent complexity on the nose, marked by subtle and floral aromas. On the palate, it is dense and warm, with ripe black fruits and mineral notes, smooth tannins with good complexity and persistence.

Notes: To be enjoyed over the next 3-4 years.

CELLER CAPÇANES

Founded in 1933 by five families from the village of Capçanes, who together established a cooperative that would handle large quantities of grapes economically and efficiently. The cooperative bears the name of the village where it is located: Capçanes, a village hidden away in the Priorato hills inland from Tarragona and with a long wine-growing history.
In the 1990s, the company was reinvented as an independent company with its original members as shareholders; today, they have around 130 members and produce a wide selection of high-quality wines, including the well-known Peraj Ha’abib, a Kosher wine, under the Montsant appellation.
