Sellongues is Albert Jané's new addition to the Celler Ritme wine range. It is named after the vineyard it comes from, "Sellongues". The wine comes from a very low-yielding old Caringnan vineyard of just 2 hectares in total. The vines were planted in 1920 in the partida de Sellongues in La Vilella Alta district. The vineyard is home to centenarian vines growing on "coster", a very steep slope with extremely poor soils made up mainly of llicorella.

Production:

Hand harvested, it goes through a first selection in the vineyards followed by a second selection by hand in the winery.

Fermentation and ageing for 12 months in 400-litre new French oak barrel and in a 125-litre clay amphora.

Bottled in February 2024.

The wines from the winery, Ritme Celler, are organically farmed and produced wines and duly certified by the authority CCPAE, the Catalan Council of Organic Production, the public watchdog responsible to the Catalan Government's Ministry of Agriculture.

Tasting Notes:

Bright red colour. Very expressive on the nose, it combines red fruit with balsamic and spicy aromas and notes of Mediterranean herbs such as rosemary and fennel. Full bodied, with plenty of ripe red berry fruit on the palate, and subtle oak, spice and a mineral background. Concentrated yet elegant. Velvety on the palate with a long, fresh finish.                                           

Ritme Celler is a personal project of Albert Jané of Jané Ventura in D.O. Penedés and Acústic Celler of D.O. Montsant. It all started in 2003 when he acquired some old native vineyards in the D.O. Montsant. Once more, he maintains his philosophy, respecting the traditional viticulture of the region and the values of the fruit, with no attempt to give pride of place to the wood, great respect to nature, avoiding excessive use of technology, and allowing the vines to express their individual characteristics.
