Voltons is a "Vi de Paratge", a cuvée of the most traditional grape varieties of the area, coming from centenary vines in Costers and terraces of Llicorella soils. To make this wine, vines from three generations are combined: Carinyena vines planted in 1909 and 1949 and black Grenache vines from 2000, which are located on a site that gives the name to this unique wine, "Volton", in the municipal district of the Vilella Alta village.
Production:
Cold maceration. Temperature-controlled fermentation in stainless steel tanks. The wine rests for a few months in the same tank and then ages in 500-litre French and Austrian oak barrels, followed by a further 18 months of ageing in a bottle before its release.
Tasting Notes:
Deep cherry colour. A wine of great concentration with mineral and spice overtones, with aromas of red fruit and Mediterranean herbs. On the palate, it displays freshness, black fruit, menthol notes, superb acidity, fine tannins, and a very harmonious mineral finish.
Notes: It is recommended to decant the wine. Drink now and over the next 10 years.
THE WINERY
Celler La Conreria D’Scala Dei received its name from the priory of Scala Dei, where the Carthusian monks at the monastery planted their first vines back in 1194.
The current Celler was founded in 1997 as an initiative and enthusiasm of a group of people historically linked to the Priorat. It is located in a privileged enclave surrounded by the natural park of Montsant in the heart of the Priorat winemaking area.
Actually, they produced a selection of high-quality wines using grapes sourced from their 26.5 ha of leased and owned vineyards, scattered over different plots within the D.O. Priorat.
