The Cepas Viejas is the flagship of the Dominio de Tares winery, a benchmark in the Bierzo area.

Production: 

Dominio de Tares Cepas Viejas is a 100% Mencia wine from 60-year-old vines growing on gentle slopes on clay and slate soils.

Hand harvested bunch by bunch, fermented with selected wild yeast, aged for 9 to 12 months in new and used French and American oak barrels, followed by an extra 12 to 18 months of rest in bottle.

Tasting Notes: 

Deep ruby colour, beautifully intense aromas infused with red and black berry confiture, scents of spice, liquorice, clove, and touches of vanilla. Full-bodied and soft-textured, balanced and smooth with very soft tannins and a fresh and pleasantly long finish.

Viñedos y Bodegas Dominio de Tarés

Dominio de Tarés was one of the newcomers in the area attracted by the Mencía grape’s potential. Established in 2000, with its first vintage in 2001, it has not ceased producing wines with astonishing results: superb wines from the indigenous Mencía and Godello varieties and elegant and complex wines reflecting the excellence of the terroir where they come from.

Situated in the province of León, the heartland of the Mencía grape, the winery is surrounded by high-quality vineyards; old vineyards with vines between 40 and 90 years old growing on a terroir with extraordinary potential in a privileged area; a mixture of slopes and terraces; and the soil being alluvial at river level and clay and slate on the slopes. They work 30 ha of their own vineyards as well as about the same amount of rented vineyards. At the winery, the work is carried out on the philosophy of minimal intervention in order to produce more authentic, natural, and expressive wines.
