Manual selection of the grapes. Aged for 12 months in new American oak (40%), 2nd-year French oak (30%), and 30% Foudre (3000-litre) French oak.
THE WINERY
4 Kilos is the project of the oenologist Francesc Grimalt, former partner of the Mallorcan winery Ánima Negra, and Sergio Caballero, a musician and partner in the project.
The company was founded in 2006, and the first vintage for its first wine, 4 Kilos 2006, was elaborated in the garage of a winegrower friend. The project started with a small budget but with excellent grapes; hence the name "4 Kilos", which was the initial investment of the two partners in pesetas (4 million pesetas). Since 2007, the wines have been made in their new converted bodega, which is located in a former sheep barn on the outskirts of Felanitx.
From that point on, the project started to climb to the top with a commitment to quality and passion for the product, gaining significant recognition and adding new winemaking projects. From the beginning, they have had the support of the winegrowers, carrying out a rational and environmentally friendly viticulture. The vineyards are located in different municipalities in the south and north of the island; for that reason, they do not belong to any D.O.
