Aalto PS is made from 100% Tinto Fino (the local name in Ribera del Duero, also called Tinta del Pais, a local variant of Rioja’s Tempranillo) from very old vines—more than 60 years old—from selected plots in the villages of La Horra, La Aguilera and Fresnillo.
Production:
Harvested exclusively by hand, following an extra-special, careful selection process of the best grapes. The ageing takes place in new French oak barrels for 20 months. Aalto PS is only made in the best years. Bottled in September 2024
Tasting Notes:
A stunning nose of lively, spiced fruit with slightly floral hints, minerals, and toasted notes. Firm and structured with a good concentration of ripe, spicy fruit, good depth, and ripe tannins. Finishes long and will go on improving.
Notes: It is recommended to decant the wine. It will continue to evolve over the next 2–3 years. It needs to be kept in bottle for some years to offer its best. The wine has good ageing potential, and after the third year in bottle, it will gain complexity and balance.
Bodegas y Viñedos Aalto is a partnership between the well-known vigneron Mariano Garcia (Bodegas Mauro) and Javier Zaccagnini (Bodegas Ossian). The winery is located in the municipal district of Quintanilla de Arriba, in the highly acclaimed wine region of Ribera del Duero.
Aalto is the result of a careful selection of high-quality grapes. The winery controls, under strict supervision, 100 ha of very old, low-yielding vineyards with very old clones of Tinto Fino of outstanding quality, located in 7 different villages of the DO Ribera del Duero. Aalto is now regarded as one of Spain's major wines, having earned a well-deserved reputation not just in Spain but also worldwide.
