Do Ferreiro Cepas Vellas is a signature albariño by Bodegas Gerardo Méndez. Born in the fertile lands of the Valley DO Salnés, from centenary vines, over 200 years old. The vines grow in sandy soil with granitic rock, in a privileged location without a doubt, with the optimal orientation and altitude.
This wine has been carefully crafted with all the care and passion, reflecting the great dedication of its creator, Gerardo Méndez, the third generation of this small family winery.
Following the family tradition, Gerardo Méndez began to produce wine in their property, La Casa Grande de Galiñanes, in 1973. The family estate is located in Meaño, Pontevedra, in the heart of the Salnés region. The winery and family residence are housed in the Old Manor House. The winery works their own vineyards, which are planted exclusively with the Albariño variety, including the oldest vines in the Rias Baixas denomination of origin.
Production:
A wine that has spent 12 months in contact with its fine lees, resulting in an elegant wine with great volume, uniqueness, and personality that does not go unnoticed. It is a great example of a white wine aged totally unoaked. Its production is very limited, varying from vintage to vintage, and presents an exceptional ageing potential.
Made from 100% Albariño, of which between 10-15% of the grapes are affected with noble botrytis, giving it its unique aroma.
Destemmed grapes and cold skin maceration. Aged for 12 months in stainless steel tanks with its fine lees.
Tasting Notes:
Pale, bright golden yellow colour. A serious and delicate wine with a very expressive nose, balanced and elegant. Aromas ranging from floral fragrances to stone-white fruits, combined with citrus, mineral, and saline notes.
Flavoursome mouthful with a beautifully creamy texture and length. Saline with a perfectly integrated acidity. It shows what the albariño grape can offer at its very best, filled with personality and character, with a great potential to age in bottle.
