O Luar Do Sil Godello sobre lías is born from the adventure of Bodegas Pago de Capellanes (Ribera del Duero) in Valdeorras. Pago de Capellas arrives in the DO Valdeorras, attracted by the characteristics of the region, one of the oldest Designations of Origin in Spain. Taking advantage of the natural conditions of its soils and climate that favour a different viticulture, recognised for the recovery of native varieties, ensuring the origin and highest quality of genuine wines.
Production:
A white wine aged on its lees from traditional viticulture made entirely from the autochthonous Godello variety, Valdeorras' star variety.
The grapes come from old vines sourced from small plots on hillsides with granitic soil at an altitude of 450 metres in the Mallada and Valella area.
The grapes are hand-harvested at the point of their optimal ripeness and manually selected at the selection table in the winery. Destemmed and gently crushed. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature of between 16º and 18º. Aged for 6 months on its lees with regular weekly stirrings.
Tasting Notes:
Straw yellow colour, clean and bright. Excellent varietal character. Good fruit intensity on the nose, with a mix of aromas of stone fruit, hints of pastries from the ageing, white flowers and a herbaceous note. On the palate, fresh and balanced, with cool minerality and good fruit weight, along with herbal notes. The final is juicy with a lengthy, fruit-filled finish.
Pago de los Capellanes is a relatively young winery, founded in 1996 when Paco Rodero, the son of Doroteo Rodero, and his wife Conchita Villa recovered the family vineyard, expanding the property by acquiring neighbouring plots.
The winery is located close to the village of Pedrosa del Duero in the heart of the Ribera del Duero Region, and its vineyards are divided into 35 parcels, from which their grapes are vinified separately. The soil is made up of clay and chalk. The vineyards are planted only with Tempranillo or Tinto Fino grapes, the variety indigenous to the region. They only harvest 5,000 kg of grapes per hectare, well below the 7,000 kg allowed by the Regulatory Council of the Ribera del Duero Region to guarantee the highest quality.
