Haart Rielsing Ohligsberger Spätlese comes from the vineyards located on the Ohligsberg area, a very steep, south-west facing slope, rising above the banks of the river Moselle, near the village of Wintrich. The soil here is composed of hard slate stones with a blue-grey color. A soil that quickly heats up in the sun, giving the grapes a higher level of maturity.

Classified as VDP. Grosse Lage, a seal of quality for grand wines from great vineyards. They often come from world-famous vineyards that consistently produce exceptional grapes. They express the character of a singular site, the unique soil composition, and the skills of the families that have cultivated the vineyards for many generations. They are complex wines with enormous ageing potential. Comparable to Grand Cru in Burgundy.

Spätlese: literally "late harvest", wines of higher quality harvested at the end of the autumn from grapes that have been allowed to ripen longer than usual, increasing the intensity and flavors of the fruit.

Vinification:

Hand-picked grapes in late October. The must ferments with natural yeasts in steel tanks in the cellar in Piesport. After a long ageing on the lees, the wine is bottled before June. Residual sugar: 72,2 g/l

Tasting Notes: Ripe stone fruit-scented nose, especially peach, apricot, grapefruit, pear, stony slate minerality. On the palate, is dense and fruity, round, mouth-filling, slatey, honeyed sweetness, and finishing with good fresh acidity.

Notes:A promising wine that will gain in complexity and expression with age, best after 10 years and more when it has matured to its full potential.

Excellent with aromatic and spicy dishes

THE WINERY

The Haart family takes pride in being one of the oldest local winemaking families in this part of the Mosel. Weingut Reinhold Haart is without a doubt a privileged place on the Mosel’s riverbank, in the village of Piesport, in the very heart of the Mosel, where the Haart family has been producing wines since 1337, from grapes grown exclusively on their own estate in one of the region’s best vineyards.

Today, their 8 ha of vineyards on a diversity of sites produce a wide range of elegant and fine Riesling wines from the ripe fruit and its excellent terroir. Vineyards climb uphill in steep sites overlooking the river, exposed to the sunlight, and growing on slate-rich soils. Yields are kept low, and the fermentation takes place under cool conditions with natural yeasts either in stainless steel or in traditional oak barrels.

Their wines have a natural fruit sweetness and a great ageing potential.

The winery is a member of the Bernkasteler Ringan association of the top wine estates of the Mosel, Saar and Ruwer river valleys and the oldest wine auction company in this growing area.

Piesport is a small town on a sharp bend in the Mosel river in the Mosel wine district of Germany. The town of Piesport contains the ideal sites for wine growing, a steep amphitheatre facing south. The name of the slopes flanking the village: the single vineyard site, Goldtröpfchen (Little Drop of Gold), is a splendid south-facing site protected from winds by its location on a loop in the river. The soil is quite complex, composed of quartz with stony clay and slate, rich in iron oxide, and it is famous for gently honeyed wines, with great fragrance and very mineral character. In this region, half of the wines are classified as great growth, while the other half are classified as first growth. The vast plantation across the river is known as Piesporter Treppchen.
