El Gos is a Garnacha Negra single varietal young wine, sourced from its own vineyards in the municipality of El Molar, within the DO Montsant side, although the wine is made outside the Denomination of Origin under their new classification of Mountain Wines. Grapes from ecological and conventional viticulture.

Production:

The grapes are hand-picked, undergoing a first selection process at the vineyard. Fermentation takes place in steel tanks with native yeasts, followed by 3 months of ageing in oak barrels.

Tasting Notes: Fresh and fruity, youthful, clean red fruit flavours with a mineral background, smooth and pleasant with structure and fruit.

THE WINERY

Grifoll Declara is a small, family-owned operation founded in 1880. They own two wineries in the small town of El Molar, in the southwestern part of the Priorat region (Tarragona), a village that has the singularity, because of its location and the geological characteristics of its soil, to be able to use two different denominations of origin, DOC Priorat and DO Montsant.

Actually, the operation is managed by the fifth generation, which is dedicated to the cultivation of vines, almonds, and olive trees on 72 plots of 100% self-owned vineyard, cultivated according to organic and traditional viticulture. The same philosophy is followed in the winery, where they always select indigenous yeasts, use the minimum amount of sulphites necessary to maintain the wine's stability, and do not use any animal products, making it fully suitable for vegetarians and vegan-friendly.

Since 2018, all the wines produced by the winery in the Montsant region are commercialised outside the Montsant appellation of origin. Its vineyards and winery, which were previously certified as DO Montsant, are now producing the wines under an independent system with an external audit quality control called "Mountain Wines" MWEM, fully backed by the Spanish and European authorities.
