Mon Iaio Sisco is the second label of the winery, created three years ago by Josep Vicens, the 5th generation, as a tribute to the family's Grandfather "Sisco" Francisco Vicens, one of the pioneers in the elaboration of the wines in the family, for his lifelong dedication and commitment to the world of wine.
Production:
Carignan-based wine sourced from the oldest Grenache vines in Terra Alta, vineyards over 80 years old, growing on calcareous soils in the municipal district of Gandesa.
Ageing for 15 months in a mixture of American and French oak barrels.
Very limited production.
Tasting Notes: Dark cherry colour, clean and bright. Dense, multi-layered. Matured dark fruits: black cherry, mature plums, spiciness, and balsamic, a slight touch of earthiness and minerality. On the palate, broad and meaty, ripe tannins.
Notes: Drinks nicely now but will go on for a few more years.
CELLER JOSEP VICENS
A small family-run operation in Gandesa, whose origins date back to the early days of the XIX century. The Vincen family, local winegrowers dedicated to selling wine in bulk, have passed on the operation to the current generation, who are committed to innovation, introducing new techniques, and pioneers in the introduction of the Syrah variety in the area and elaborating good quality wines. Their brand name, “Vinyes del Grau”, comes from the family’s oldest plantation, called “El Grau”, where they grow mainly Syrah, used both in their young and aged wines. Their vineyards, extending over 17 hectares, are situated in the surroundings of Gandesa (Terra Alta); they are planted on diverse soils, although the main type is calcareous and very low in organic matter.
