Production:
Aged for 14 months in 100% medium-toasted new French oak barriques, followed by another 22 months resting in bottle.
Tasting Notes:
Elegant aromas of mature black fruit, cassis, plum, cherry, subtle vanilla, spices, and liquorice notes fill the nose. Mature, concentrated, and with good harmony between fruit and oak, spicy red berry, and bitter cherry flavours on the palate. Ripe tannins with a long and elegant aftertaste.
Notes: It is recommended to decant 1 hour before serving. Enjoy it over the next decade.
THE WINERY:
Pago de los Capellanes is a relatively young winery, founded in 1996 when Paco Rodero, the son of Doroteo Rodero, and his wife, Conchita Villa, recovered the family vineyard, expanding the property by acquiring neighbouring plots.
The winery is located close to the village of Pedrosa del Duero in the heart of the Ribera del Duero Region, and its vineyards are divided into 35 parcels, from which their grapes are vinified separately. The soil is made up of clay and chalk. The vineyards are planted only with Tempranillo or Tinto Fino grapes, the variety indigenous to the region. They only harvest 5000 kg of grapes per hectare, well below the 7000 kg allowed by the Regulatory Council of the Ribera del Duero Region to guarantee the highest quality.
