The latest addition to Silvia Puig's range of wines is a Cabernet Franc varietal; 2022 is the first vintage.
An impressive wine with a clear protagonist, the Cabernet Franc. With this wine, Silvia's restless and innovative character is demonstrated once again.
The Cabernet Franc grapes come from an estate in Poboleda, from a vineyard close to the river on slate and river stone soil. Low-yielding vines, the production is very limited; only 380 bottles have been elaborated.
Production:
All the processes are done manually from beginning to end. Fermentation takes place in a 300-litre French oak barrel of second use. Afterwards, it ages in the same barrel, where it will spend 14 months. Bottled unfiltered.
Total production of 352 bottles.
Tasting Notes:
Extraordinary black-coloured, clean, and pure wine, with a big, rich nose marked by a mineral character. Displays black fruit and spices, black pepper, and notes of Mediterranean herbs. Impressive wine, flavoursome, with a great depth, showing certain complexity, firm tannins with soft plummy, cassis fruit, and a long finnish.
Note: With a good structure to age, it will improve in the cellar during the next 10–12 years.
En Números Vermells is Silvia Puig’s individual project; she is a young but very experienced winemaker with a formidable CV when it comes to winemaking and belongs to a new generation of winemakers in the Priorat. She makes amazing wines in small quantities and in a very artisanal way.
In 2008, she began her project by making just one single barrel in a small garage converted for this purpose in the village of Torroja; today, she has her own place in the village of Gratallops, where she produces the wines. All of the fruit is carefully selected from several plots staggered in Costers (a Catalán word meaning steep slopes) and terraces with soils dominated by the characteristic “llicorella” or slate in various locations around the Priorat. She cultivates some plots with very old vines, some of which are 100-year-old vines, from which she produces her signature wine, "En Numeros Vermells Centenary Carinyenas".
