Production:

All the grapes for the 2023 vintage come from the younger vineyards and the wine is made from a single varietal of Carignan for this vintage.

Giol Porrera is a blend of the autochthonous variety Carinyena, sourced exclusively from their own grapes, carefully hand-selected from vineyards in Costers (steep slopes) and llicorella soils, "Mas d’En Caçador" and "Les Sentius". Jonàs counted on the oenological expertise and advice of Bixente and Diane Oçafrain (of ex-Bodegas Mas Alta) to create a wine that captures the essence of the Priorat region while also being beautifully crafted.

Fermented in steel vats of different sizes and aged in French oak barrels for 14 months.

Tasting Notes:

Scented nose of raspberry and cherry fruit and some toasted notes coming through. Fruit on the palate, elegant and wide, good ripeness, soft-textured, silky tannins lightly spiced, finishing long with a good balance between fruit and wood.

This young winery, Bodegas Giol Porrera, is the project of winegrower and winemaker Jonàs Macip, who, together with the full support of his family, has created a small family-run operation in the heart of the Priorat, in the village of Porrera, to elaborate their own wines from the grapes they have always grown and had previously sold to other producers. The winery was born in 2018, and their vintage was released to the market in 2020, in the midst of the difficulty and uncertainty that the pandemic times have brought.
