Pedro Ximénez del Carlos is a very special white wine that comes from a single vineyard of Pedro Ximénez owned by Silvia’s close friend and local winegrower, Carlos Cubells. The plot is located in the municipality of Poboleda, a Coster planted over 60 years ago at 600 metres above sea level with excellent exposure.
Production:
Harvested by hand, slow fermentation at controlled temperature in both oak barrels and amphorae. Ageing on its lees for approximately 4 months in a 500-litre oak barrel, followed by a rest in a demijohn.
Small production of just 820 bottles.
Tasting Notes:
Fresh and clean. Aromas reminiscent of peach, pear, and lemon are complemented by notes of exotic flowers. Good complexity and depth with generous fruit, flavour, freshness, and minerality. Finishing with good acidity and freshness.
Notes: Drink over the next 3–4 years.
En Números Vermells is Silvia Puig’s individual project; she is a young but very experienced winemaker with a formidable CV when it comes to winemaking and belongs to a new generation of winemakers in the Priorat. She makes amazing wines in small quantities and in a very artisanal way.
In 2008, she began her project by making just one single barrel in a small garage converted for this purpose in the village of Torroja; today, she has her own place in the village of Gratallops, where she produces the wines. All of the fruit is carefully selected from several plots staggered in costers (a Catalan word meaning steep slopes) and terraces with soils dominated by the characteristic “llicorella” or slate in various locations around the Priorat. She cultivates some plots with very old vines, some of which are 100-year-old vines, from which she produces her signature wine, "En Numeros Vermells Centenary Carinyenas".
