A terroir wine sourced from 100% Grenache old vines growing on slated soils, Llicorella is the local name for the rocky slate and schist, rich in sparkly quartzite.
It belongs to a series of four wines that have been elaborated exclusively with the Grenache variety, each sourced from four different types of soil from the Capçanes district: panal, llicorella, argila, and calissa.
The region's flagship soil type is 'licorella', a free-draining, low-in-organic-matter, laminated, and broken rock between which the roots of the vines dig deep in search of water and nutrients. The Grenache obtained from the Llicorella soil is more mineral.
Production:
Hand-harvested during the middle of September, the wine has fermented at a controlled temperature of 24º-28º in 500 L French oak barrels. Aged for 6 months in medium-light toasted new French oak barrels of 228 L. Light filtration.
Tasting Notes:
Intense dark cherry colour. Good complexity on the nose, marked by its mineral and balsamic character, ripe with baked cherry and raspberry aromas. Intense cherry fruit on the palate, rich and succulent, good weight, and long finish.

The Winery
Founded in 1933 by five families from the village of Capçanes, who together established a cooperative that would handle large quantities of grapes economically and efficiently. The cooperative bears the name of the village where it is located: Capçanes, a village hidden away in the Priorat hills inland from Tarragona and with a long wine-growing history.
In the 1990s, the company was reinvented as an independent company with its original members as shareholders; today, they have around 130 members and produce a wide selection of high-quality wines, including the well-known Peraj Ha’abib, a kosher wine, under the Montsant appellation.
