Les Eres is a selection of the best grapes from old vines, a blend of The Carignan grape sourced from the vineyards from which it is named after, the Grenache variety, this coming from the family’s old vineyards situated in Bellmunt, and a smaller percentage of Cabernet Sauvignon from the village of El Molar.

Vinification: 

Harvested manually, it has spent 18 months in new French oak barrels and some more time in bottle before its release.

Tasting Notes: 

Big, full-bodied red with good intensity of ripe berry fruit, subtle oak, spice, and mineral finishing with a great length. Should mature beautifully.

Notes: It is recommended to decant it before serving.

THE WINERY

The winery is owned by Gerard Batllevell Simó, a descendent of a family of local winegrowers. In 1999, he restored the basement of their historic house in Porrera into a modern winery, and with his father's support and the advice of family and friends, he produced the first vintage that same year. 

Their vineyards, mainly dominated by slate soils, known locally as llicorella, are split into 2 zones: the high-altitude, cool vineyards around the village of Porrera and La Garrantxa:

Les Eres, situated on a steep terraced coster overlooking the village of Porrera, has 3 hectares planted 93 years ago with vines of Carignan and Grenache.

The lower, hotter vineyards around Bellmunt de Priorat, Tros Nou, have 3800 vines planted 87 years ago, mainly with Grenache peluda and Carignan.

Els Carners was planted only 83 years ago with 1500 vines of Carignan and Grenache.
