Marques de Riscal 150 aniversario is made exclusively in exceptional vintages. Made as a Gran Reserva, it combines modernity and tradition with great complexity and freshness. A wine that represents the distinctive style of Rioja Alavesa.
Production:
A blend of mostly Tempranillo grapes from some of the oldest vines in the region, over 80 years old. Low-yielding vines, hand-harvested and carefully selected on a selection table at the winery to ensure that only the finest grapes are picked. Fermented at a controlled temperature for 14 days.
The wine is aged in French oak barrels for 30 months in French oak barrels with a further three years in bottle before its release.
Bottled unfiltered and stabilised by natural methods during its ageing in barrels, which may cause sediments; in that case, decanting is recommended.
Tasting Notes:
Intense, very dark cherry colour. Vigorous, vibrant and elegant. Presents great aromatic intensity and complexity, roasted and balsamic notes, and spicy touches of black pepper and cinnamon. It has an elegant, smooth texture, balanced acidity, a round and concentrated tannin profile, and a delicious, long-lasting finish on the palate.
A wine for eternity, it has excellent ageing potential.
Since its beginnings in 1858, Vinos de los Herederos del Márques de Riscal has been one of La Rioja's pioneer wineries, being the first to produce wines aged in oak barrels. Its wines are a must-try for anyone interested in learning about Rioja's very traditional style. The winery is located in El Ciego (Alava) and has a history of producing excellent wines.
