Sourced from a single plot located in the area of Vila dels Masos de Falset, just in the border with the D.O. Montsant. The vineyards are planted on licorella soil, the characteristic slate, which gives the wines of the DO its authenticity and identity.
Production:
Slow spontaneous fermentation using wild yeasts with pigeage every two days. The wines are aged for 21 months mainly in foudres (large oak vats) and barrels, and also in some clay pots or amphorae to counter the oak.
Tasting Notes: Forward and elegant wine with an attractive and fruity nose. Full-bodied, smooth palate of deep rounded flavours, nicely noticeable minerality with ripe fruit and spicy notes. Excellent length.
Note: It is recommended to decant this wine before serving. It can be drunk now and over the next 15 years.
Mas Martinet’s owner, José Luis Perez, is one of those credited with the resurrection of Priorato. The Bodega was founded in 1989, with the first vintage released in 1993. Currently and since 2000, the winery is run by his thoughtful young daughter, Sara Perez, who has revitalised this estate, now one of the best addresses in the area. The wines are consistently excellent, with Clos Martinet being the flagship wine of the winery.
