Castell del Remei, one of the oldest wineries in Catalonia, was founded in the 19^th century but totally revamped in the 1980s when it was acquired by the Cuisiné family in 1982.

It is also the second-largest bodega in the area, and although it is notorious for its red blends, it has recently introduced its first single-varietal wine: a single-estate Garnatxa wine made from high-altitude vines at the "Alts del Castell" estate, 5 ha of low-yield vines planted in 1981 and growing on calcareous clay soils with pebbles at an altitude of 700 metres above sea level.

The vineyard is located within the Costers del Segre Denomination of Origin, at the border with the Priorat region. The vineyard is worked under the precepts of ecological agriculture and dry farming.

Winemaking: 

The wine is made with two different elaborations of the same Grenache with a final assembly. A first fermentation takes place in a 4500-litre deposit where half of the grapes are vinified with the stem and the rest are destemmed. The other half in the traditional way in a stainless-steel vat with selected native yeasts. Only 1/3 of the wine will spend time in French oak barrel for about 50 days before its assembly.

Tasting Notes: 

A red wine with complexity, depth, and freshness. Scents of ripe red and black berry fruits, a floral touch, and balsamic notes. Soft-textured, succulent fruit flavours with good complexity and inviting.
