Cor de Pedra is the red wine from Celler Fills de la Llicorella. A very small and personal project founded in 2017 by brothers Adria and Oriol Domènech from Cal Pagès, the name of the family home in Porrera. As the ninth generation, they bear their forefathers' tradition for the land in their veins, and they are joined by Pau Peryil, also a winegrower and friend from Porrera. Together, the three of them have around 12 hectares of family vineyards in the area, some of which are very old, although most of the majority are more recent plantings.
The project produces two wines they commercialised under the DOQ Priorat: Cor de Pedra (red) and Cassanella (white). They produce very limited quantities, which allows them to keep their project small and personalised, controlling the whole process themselves, from the vineyards to the marketing and commercialisation.
Vinification:
The grapes are carefully selected from the youngest vines, which are about 20 years old. The vines are growing on terraces and hillsides in licorella soils.
Harvested manually. Grapes are destemmed when they enter the winery and left with their skins. Fermentation takes place with their own natural yeasts for 15 to 20 days at a controlled temperature. It undergoes an initial ageing of 3 months in stainless steel, afterwards being transferred to used French barrels of 300 and 225 litres, where it remains for 10 to 12 months.
Bottled without filtering or stabilisation. Limited production of 2500 bottles.
Tasting notes:
Cherry red colour of medium intensity. Red fruit-scented nose, with notes of berries, undergrowth, herbs and a spicy background. On the palate, it enters with a fresh and pleasant note. It shows good fruit weight and notes of the ageing. Very expressive and pleasantly long finish.
