A very personal and unique wine from Joan Asens in homage to his son, Genís. La coma del Genis is a small plot from the vineyard “La coma del Nicolau” planted with Picapoll negre by Genís Asens in 2010. This small plot of just 0.25 ha of calcareous soils and pebbles is located at an altitude of 140 metres above sea level in the municipal district of El Masroig.

Production: 

Traditionally farmed following biodynamic methods, the wine has been elaborated at the Cooperative del Molar Cellar. Made exclusively with Picapoll Negre, whole clusters are fermented in 500-litre open oak vats at a controlled temperature of 20ºC. Aged for 6 months in stainless steel vats, followed by another 6 months in used oak barrels.

Optimal consumption time during the next 10 years.

Tasting Notes: Lighter-coloured, pleasant aromatic nose, red fruits, subtle and delicate, long and easy to drink.

Orto Vins started in 2008 as the result of a joint project by four vine growers from El Masroig, a small village inside the appellation of Montsant in the Catalonia region.

Jordi Beltran, Josep Mª Beltran, Josep Mª Jové, and Joan Asens all come from families with a long tradition in vine growing. With this project, headed by Joan Asens, an experienced oenologist best known for his work during 15 years in Alvaro Palacio's winery in Gratallops, where he was in charge of the viticulture and vinification side, they return to their origins and continue to blend the finest quality wines from their own vineyards, according to their traditions.
